3 Days To Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
Overview
Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established in 1998 and is managed by the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust with the aim of providing a safe home for orphaned eastern chimpanzees. Located on Lake Victoria in Uganda, the sanctuary is dedicated to the care and protection of rescued chimpanzees.
About 90% of the island is covered by natural forest and protected by an electric fence that separates the chimpanzees from the human camp. The chimpanzees roam freely within the forest, feeding naturally and returning twice daily for supplementary feeding sessions in the morning and afternoon.
The chimpanzees at Ngamba have the freedom to spend the night in the forest or return to the overnight enclosure. However, the evening meal often motivates them to return. This tour also includes a scenic boat ride to Ngamba Island, where visitors can observe the chimpanzees feeding and playing while learning about ongoing conservation efforts. The experience also features guided forest walks, bird watching, and cultural interactions with the local community.
