4 Days Of Gorilla And Wildlife Experience In Mgahinga
Overview
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the smallest national park in Uganda. It is located in the southwestern part of the country and is known for its beautiful scenery and unique wildlife.
On your way to the park, you will have a stop at the Equator crossing in Kayabwe, where you can take photos and see simple demonstrations. You will also stop at Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara to learn about the culture and traditions of western Uganda.
The main activities in Mgahinga include mountain gorilla trekking, where you get a chance to see gorillas in their natural home, and golden monkey tracking, where you follow and watch these playful monkeys in the forest. You will also take part in the Batwa Cultural Trail, where you learn about the Batwa people, their way of life, and their history in the forest.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Start your journey from Entebbe and travel to southwestern Uganda, heading to Kisoro. On the way, stop at the Uganda Equator Crossing Kayabwe. Here, you will see a simple water experiment that shows the difference between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, and you can take nice photos. Continue to Mbarara and visit the Igongo Cultural Centre. You will enjoy local food like matoke and eshabwe and learn about the culture of western Uganda.
After that, drive through the beautiful rolling hills and terraced farms of the Kigezi Highlands, with great views along the way. When you arrive in Kisoro, check in at Ichumbi Hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Wake up early and head to the park headquarters for a briefing by experienced rangers. You will be guided on the rules and what to expect during the gorilla trekking experience. After the briefing, enter the forest for an exciting gorilla trekking adventure. You will walk through the dense forest as you search for a habituated mountain gorilla family. Once you find them, you will spend one hour observing their behavior at close range.
This is a rare and unforgettable experience. After the trek, enjoy your packed lunch.
You will then return to the park headquarters, where you will receive your gorilla trekking certificate.
In the afternoon, take part in the Batwa Cultural Trail. This experience is led by a Batwa guide with the support of a park ranger. You will visit caves where the Batwa once lived, learn about their hunting methods, see the foods they used to eat, and discover their traditional herbal medicine. After the experience, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Wake up early and have breakfast at your lodge. After breakfast, head to the park headquarters in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for a short briefing by the park rangers. After the briefing, enter the forest for golden monkey tracking. You will walk through the bamboo forest as you follow these active and playful monkeys. Once you find them, you will spend time watching them jump through the trees and feed. This is a fun and exciting experience. Enjoy your packaged lunch.
In the afternoon, take a guided nature walk in the forest, where you will learn more about the park’s plants, birds, and small animals.
After breakfast, check out from the lodge and enjoy scenic views along the way back to Entebbe. Arrive in the evening, marking the end of your memorable safari.
