Day-by-Day Itinerary
The company driver picks you up from your airport or hotel in the morning and drive to Queen Elizabeth national park. You will have lunch en route or at the lodge depending on time. Upon reaching Kyambura, you can have an evening community walk around the surrounding natives of Queen Elizabeth national park or just relax at the lodge with stunning views as you wait for the next day’s adventure. Not forgetting that the channel has the highest concentration of hippos in Uganda. Dinner and overnight at Marafiki Safari Lodge.
After breakfast, we’ll will have a game drive as you depart Queen Elizabeth National Park for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, cutting through the Ishasha sector where you may have chance to see the tree climbing Lions leisurely resting in ficus trees and other big mammals which you may have missed during the game drives of the previous day(s). You will spend the night at your pre-booked Accommodation center (full board). We recommend that you have a good night’s rest ahead of the following day’s gorilla tracking! Accommodation at Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge.
After an early morning breakfast, and with your picnic lunch we then take a short drive to the park offices for briefing where we meet the excellent local guides and trackers who give a talk on the etiquette of gorilla trekking. We then hike into the forest to a spot where Gorillas were seen the previous night and track from there. Trekking may take anything between 1 to 6 hours depending on the location of the family and altitudes which is in excess of 7500 feet. The terrain is rough and muddy calling for physical fitness. Although the hike is physically demanding, the beauty of the forest and surrounding scenery make the trekking worthwhile. It is recommended that you take plenty of water with you on the trek. Cameras and plenty of fast speed films are recommended. Being a tropical rain forest, it may rain at no notice, hence need to bring with you waterproof clothing, including zip lock bags for cameras and film. Others to come with include; strong hiking/walking shoes, long pants, gloves and raincoat. After return back to the lodge for overnight.
After breakfast transfer to Entebbe international airport to readily catch your flight back home in the evening as you say farewell to the pearl of Africa!
